Supernatural Armour

Ephesians 6:10-18
While in prayer I was contemplating the armour of God and in particular the shoes. Suddenly I saw the shoes in my spirit and I saw that they were made of a mercury - like substance – silvery and shiny. The shoes were actually ankle boots. The silvery material they were made of was moving in a rippling, breathing way - alive and with personality!

The material never stopped rippling and breathing, it was as if it was interacting with the one who wore the boots. It was fascinating to watch. As I watched, a snake which was under the boot, flicked up and struck the boot with its fangs. The boot sustained two little puncture wounds but the mercury substance rippled over the two little wounds and immediately the wounds were covered over and healed. It was instantaneous and complete in its ability to heal itself.

I then saw that the whole armour of Ephesians 6 was made of the same substance – the belt of truth, armour of righteousness, helmet of salvation, even the sword of the Word and the shield faith. The whole armour was rippling, breathing and appeared to have personality and be interactive. I realized that the material the armour was made up of was the very nature and characteristics of God himself. The more we become like Him, the more of Him that is in our lives, the more effective the amour is.

I watched as the armour bent with the body. It was flexible and supple. It didn’t hinder movement but rather, conformed to the contours of the body, allowing freedom of movement. In fact it seemed to enhance movement.

Then even more amazing, I saw the shield of faith singing. It was singing songs of freedom, deliverance and healing. Faith was singing! The songs were ringing out from the shield itself. As arrows hit the shield it would not even mark the surface, the arrows just fell to the ground useless. All the while the shield kept on singing.

The sword being held was also amazing. It was a natural extension of the hand. There was no beginning to the sword or end to the hand, they were a single unit. The sword itself was of the same silvery substance but it was glowing with fire as well as being rigid and strong. It seems a contradiction to say that it was rigid but also of the silvery substance, but that was the way it appeared.

Then I saw rows and rows of identical soldiers wearing this armour. They were shoulder to shoulder, all wearing the same silvery armour. They were at once beautiful and terrifying to see. A beautiful army that was incredible to watch. They were marching ahead in perfect unison – not one out of step, all moving as one. It was an incredible sight that is hard to describe, but one that remains with me still.

The substance the armour was made of was the very characteristics and nature of God himself. God IS righteous. God IS light. God IS truth. God IS peace. Therefore when we take on His characteristics we are taking on the very essence of who He is. We put on His truth, we put on His righteousness, we put on His peace that comes from the Good News. As we become holy as He is holy, His very nature becomes our protection. We are also protected by the shield of faith that sings in the face of adversity, releasing freedom, deliverance and healing. And we know that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. ( Rom 10:17)

The Word of God has to become a part of who we are, our vocabulary. A natural extension of who we are. The mortal, natural man speaking the Word of God, reading the Word of God, allowing the Word of God to transform lives. Our hand must be permanently attached to the Word. Just like Eleazar’s hand cramped onto his sword ( 2 Sam 23:10), so too our hand must never let go of the Sword of the Word, but in fact become inextricably attached to the Sword. It is by the Sword of the Word that we defeat the enemy but it’s also the Sword that God uses to work in our lives. ( Heb 4:12) It is how we take on the very nature and characteristics of God himself – being changed from glory to glory.

Can you imagine how an army of these like-minded men and women, who have allowed God to work deep within their lives, would strike fear in the enemy’s camp! Shoulder to shoulder, marching in unison, an army that has taken on the very characteristics and nature of the God they serve. No longer a critical, in-fighting band of misfits but a united army of love slaves. Using the sword against the enemy, not each other, they move ahead with songs of salvation, deliverance and healing. The bridal army being led by the Lord of hosts, Jesus Christ.
